Articles Questions for your pet care takers When taking your pet to their vet, groomer, day care provider or pet play center you except a certain level of cleanliness and professionalism. However, not all pet care takers will meet your standards. It is important for you to check out the facility and employees in person. You will also need to ask a lot of questions about the facility, policies and employees before you feel comfortable choosing a place for your pet. The questions below should give you a starting point in determining if this is the pet care taker for you.
How does your facility ensure that the animals you care for don't get sick? Do you have cleaning policies? Contagious disease control policies?
What happens when you find out one of your dogs has a contagious illness? Are other dog parents notified? How quickly will I be notified?
How many dogs on average do you have on location on any given day? What is your ration of people to dogs?
How do you ensure that the dogs are safe and not injured by other dogs?
Are there any breed(s) or sizes of dogs that you do not accept?
How are the dogs in your care separated? Are they kept in cages, rooms, etc? How are these areas cleaned and disinfected?
What activities do the dogs get to do throughout the day? Are they given supervised and unsupervised play time? Will my dog have one on one attention or will his only play time be with multiple dogs?
How often will my dog be taken outside of his room? Is there a schedule of times when you will take them out to play?
When a dog stays overnight, how long are they in their rooms? How long are they given to play? Where are they kept when they are not in their rooms?
