Sienna update and new products!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:04 pm

Sienna is doing well. She continues to limp with her back leg, but her pain medication and her arthritis medication seem to be helping her and making her feel better. She is still chasing balls and playing with Sophie, so that is always a positive thing.  At the end of this month, we will reevaluate her limping and determine if we should slow down her playing. I’m hoping we have her around through summer so she can enjoy the weather and swimming!  Thank you to everyone who has inquired about her.

We are revamping our site a little to make it easier to find the products you love.  We will also be adding in a few new sections, check back often to see our new changes!

Our blog is also now available at EatonWeb Blog Directory

Max needs surgery

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:46 am

Max is going in for Surgery. The biopsy didn’t help the vets figure out what the lump is, so he is off to have it removed.

They are concerned that it is connected to his jaw bone. They can’t rule out cancer and don’t know what the cells are that they extracted.

Sienna is doing well. We noticed that she was limping with her back leg, though she doesn’t seem to be in much pain. After looking at it more, it looks like her knee cap is turned in.  We will be taking Max in for surgery on Monday and hopefully get Sienna in Monday as well.

Max is ok!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:02 pm

Dr. Duplissis called to say that Max is fine. It’s the first time in 13 years that she has seen a fatty deposit grow in a dogs mouth! I’m so relieved that he is going to be ok.

Sad Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:48 am

Today Max went in for surgery and Sienna went in for her knee.

After Dr. Duplissis looked at Sienna, she decided that Sienna needed X-rays. When she came back in the room she showed me the x-rays.  Sienna’s knee is definitely the problem and has weird pock marks and swirls in it. Dr. Duplissis said that two things could cause it; Valley Fever (which she was tested for last week) and bone cancer. Since Sienna was tested for valley fever already, that only leaves bone cancer. We were given options and sent home to think about what we want to do.

Unfortunately, the most common treatment is amputation and then radiation and chemotherapy. With Sienna’s advanced arthritis, Dr. Duplissis doesn’t think Sienna will do well with only three legs. She advised that we either go see a surgeon to have a biopsy done to be 100% sure or keep her medicated (with the same medications she uses for her arthritis) and comfortable for as long as we can.

When I came home I read up on bone cancer in dogs and found that it is common in older large breed dogs.  Rottweilers are also more likely to get this type of cancer.

I’m still not sure if we want to do the biopsy. Dr. Duplissis said she was 99.9% sure it was bone cancer, but that if we want to know for sure she can send us to a surgeon to the biopsy.  She also assured me that it was ok to just want to keep her happy for the short time she has left with us. From what I’ve read and what Dr. Duplissis has said, she has 2-6 months.

Sophie and Max are going to be a mess without her. They don’t like each other all that much and Sienna is best friends of both of them.  Of course we will be lost without her, but if she only has a few months, I want them to be happy and pain free. We’ll see what we decide.

Sienna is back to her old self

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:45 pm

The pills that Sienna was prescribed have made her feel so much better. She’s running and playing and jumping. I can’t keep her still.

Max’s lump is getting bigger, so we are having it biopsied. Let’s hope it isn’t anything scary!

Sienna’s limp

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:42 am

We’ve noticed that Sienna has been limping lately. She hasn’t done this for a while but now she is yelping as she walks or tries to get up.

We took her to the vet and after many x rays found that she has arthritis in just about every area you could think of. She is on new medication and hopefully this will help.

We also noticed that Max has a lump in his mouth. The vet has asked us to watch the tumor to see if it shrinks (I’m hoping it’s a bee sting, since he likes to eat bees).

Sophie also had an ear infection and now has medication for this.
