Blood Test results

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:43 am

Well, we received good and bad news about the blood tests that Max and Sienna had.  Max’s tests were perfect, he is in great health and had no problems in his bloodwork.  However, Sienna’s test reveald that she has a thyroid problem. She will need to be medicated for the rest of her life.  The good news is that she may start to lose weight, which will help her to feel better because of her elbow displaysia.

Off to the Vet to pick up new medication.

Taking all three dogs to the Vet

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:35 pm

Well today we decided to take all three of our dogs to the vet.  Sienna and Max needed their annual shots and sophie needed some more liver food and to have her weight checked.

Let me just say this, taking three dogs to the vet is not only hard work, it is not a good idea.  We put Max and Sophie on a dual leash, to help control them and sophie was in her halter. Once we got into the vet office, Max jumped on the counter to lick the vet technician and almost choked Sienna.  Once we went into our rooom, we let sophie run loose.  The vet and vet technician both came in and of course, Sophie hid from them so we had to crawl around trying to get her while the other dogs got in our faces and licked everyone. Finally, every dog received their shots and we were ready to go when they asked us if we wanted our older dogs to have blood tests to check for any problems, due to their advanced age.

Each dog had to go in the back to have blood drawn and evertime the door opened sophie would growl and bark and embarass us.  Max kept trying to sneak out of the door to visit all the people in the back and Sienna wouldn’t stop licking everyone that walked in.

We finally got the dogs back in the car and just brought them home. I’m so glad to be done for a year.

Sophie and Willy

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:28 pm

Well Willy is now on the same liver food that Sophie is on.  He seems to be doing much better and is back to his normal self of running non stop and harassing everything in his way.

Sophie went in for another liver test and her levels were a lot better, they have gone down to 127 (normal is under 100).  The vet said that she may just be a dog whose liver doesn’t conform to the norm.  So we are now assuming everything is ok, keeping her on her liver diet and rechecking her liver levels in 1 year!! Finally, Sophie doesn’t have to fear that everytime we put her in the car we are going to the vet’s office.

Why dogs shouldn’t chew sugarfree gum

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:42 pm

Well Willy spent the day in the vet office today.  He received fluids and had some more liver tests completed on him. The test were a little better than the day before.  However, they are still too high, so he is going to have another test tomorrow morning.

The strange thing is that the liver test that he is failing is the same one Sophie keeps failing. I really don’t want it to be genetic, but it does seem to be too coincidental.  If he doesn’t pass his test tomorrow then he will go home and most likely have to be on a liver diet like Sophie.  If he does pass, he will get another test.  I have done all of these tests with Sophie and she is still doing them.  However, her liver values have come down to 147 (they should be under 100) from 390.  Willy’s are still fairly high, so hopefully a few more days will help his enzyme numbers to come down.

Hopefully tomorrow’s tests will be better news!!

The saga of Sophie and Willy continues

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:33 pm

Last night I received a call from a very upset Candice.  She informed me that AJ had to take Willy to the emergency room because he had eaten a piece of sugarfree gum. Apparently, sugar free gum can cause liver failure in small dogs and Willy is small enough that he was immediately effected.  He started throwing up and acting differently.

The vet told AJ that he would need fluids and would need to see his regular vet tomorrow.  I hope he is doing better in the moring.

These dogs get into everything and they always seem to cause liver issues with them.
