We have had some unseasonably warm weather and the pool has been wonderful. The dogs are swimming every day and even though Sophie hates the water, she doesn’t act as annoyed with me when I put her in the pool to cool off.
The only way I can get Sienna into the water is to throw her ball into the pool. She’ll dive in and frantically swim towards the ball, jump out and then wait to do it all over again. She is beginning to have some problems with her elbow displaysia so I have to be careful to not wear her out.
Every time I buy new toys for the website, I test them on my dogs to see how they like them. I have to be careful with this, however, because of the size difference between Sienna and Sophie. Sophie loves small toys that she can carry around, especially squeaky toys. Unfortunately, Sienna, likes to shred small toys and eat the squeaker.
I have found that the following toys work best for both of them:
I sat down and did some research on pet foods and decided I need to change the dogs food back to what they were initially eating. We are slowly doing this, so as not to upset their stomachs. This is already working, as Max is now eating breakfast and dinner instead of only eating when he was starving.
Even though I still think the pool is freezing, I can’t keep the dogs out of it. Today Max climbed in and then I tossed Sienna’s ball into the pool and she kept diving in. She is hilarious, she runs around the pool checking to see if there is any way she can get it without jumpin in and then she runs to the steps in the pool and jumps over them and belly flops into the pool, swims like she is about to drown towards the ball, grabs the ball and then casually swims back to the steps climbs out and wants to do it all over again.
Max just likes to walk around on the second step and watch all of this. Sophie, on the other hand, hides from me because she is afraid I’m going to put her in the pool.
