Boredom chewing in dogs

Sophie: I have two dogs and they are aggressive chewers. I give them a few toys to play with, but it always seems that they chew on inappropriate things while I’m at work. Do you have any suggestions as to how to stop this behavior? Stephanie A. Las Vegas, NV

Stephanie, I understand your frustration. I live with Sienna, who is also an aggressive chewer and sometimes chews up our beds. What has worked best with her has been a lot of exercise (especially on days where we are stuck in the house) the night before as well as puzzle and interactive toys while we are alone in the house. Most of the time dogs chew for two reasons, teething and boredom. It sounds like your dogs need some active play before you leave the house and some interactive toys while you are out. Good luck! Sophie
