Ask Sophie

Picky cats and their toys

Sophie: My cats don’t like hard balls and other toys. They only seem to like soft toys; mice, balls, etc. The problem is that these toys don’t last very long. What should I do? Bonnie. New York, NY

Bonnie: Sometimes you just have to give your cats what they want. Some cats will play with hard toys and others won’t even acknowledge them. I suggest you stick with the softer toys but find larger sizes or different brands that will last longer. You can look at small dog toys that are generally tested for more chewing. These may last longer. If none of this works, you may just have to stock up on softer cat toys and throw them away as soon as you see them shredding, so as not to have shredded toys all over your house.
